The Hollies accommodates 29 residents by means of single ‘bed-sit’ style rooms. In circumstances where two people may wish to share a room can be achieved by using one room as a bedroom and an adjacent room as a lounge facility. All the accommodation is on the ground or first floor and a passenger lift and two stair lifts ensure the minimum of inconvenience to our residents.
At The Hollies we appreciate that a resident’s bedroom is a personal and private place and it must always be respected as such. There are special locks on bedroom doors that can be easily operated by most residents. Each room has a lockable cupboard to lock away private possessions. Valuables can also be made secure in the office safe. The Hollies has insurance cover for residents’ items but this is only for a modest sum.
Residents are therefore advised to insure their own valuable items.
We must stress that this is the home of the residents. In this home residents and visitors are able to use any room, including their own rooms, for a private chat.
In addition to individual bedrooms there are also four lounges as well as a dining room. One lounge is designated as the TV lounge and one of the other rooms is designated a smoking area. Another lounge provides music via a record/cassette /radio player. There is also the facility of a ‘quiet lounge’.
If residents so wish they can also bring items of their own furniture, which may also include a television set. A TV aerial socket is available in resident rooms for this purpose.
There is also a sink and razor point in each bedroom as well as a nurse call system (also present in toilet and bathing areas) so that a resident can summon staff assistance as and when required.
There are numerous toilets and bathrooms in the home, as well as a shower facility. Staff will offer assistance as required.
We obviously provide a 24 hour service and all staff are willing to assist both residents and visitors in any way we can, and we will always strive to observe a resident’s PRIVACY, DIGNITY, INDEPENDENCE, CHOICE, RIGHTS and desire for FULFILMENT.
As a staff group we always attempt to practice the principles of ‘good care’, as advocated by the Government backed publications: Home Life, Better Home Life and Homes fire For Living In. The details of these documents are available from the Manager, and form the basis of our care philosophy!
The Aims and Objectives of The Hollies are provided in a separate document that is available for general readership. However the overall aim of the home is ‘to provide high quality residential care for older people. Residents are encouraged to lead as full a life as possible so that their highest potential is achieved and their personal dignity and individuality maintained while living and participating in a caring environment’.
Inevitably a great deal of emphasis is placed on staff training and development, which is regularly acknowledged in the Commission for Social Care Inspection annual report. The current report is available for perusal in front reception area and previous year’s reports are also available on request.
As a result we are sure you will find a caring and competent staff team who are keen and able to meet your individual requirements!
